New York City is committed to making free meals available daily for all New Yorkers. While school buildings are closed, students and families can go to nearby school buildings for takeout meals. Additionally, any New Yorker can receive free meals available at locations across the city. 

Thanksgiving Meals Available for Everyone

  • Frozen Thanksgiving meals will be available for pickup for everyone

  • 12pm to 3pm 11/23, 11/24 & 11/25

  • Menu: Roasted Turkey with Gravy, Mash Potatoes, Broccoli, Buttermilk Biscuit, Apple Slices, Cookie Treat and Milk

  • No registration or ID required

  • Multiple meals can be picked up at once

  • Sites will be closed on Thanksgiving Day for meals service

  • Select locations will be open on 12pm to 3pm Friday, November 27th

Holiday Service

There will be no food service available on the following dates. November 26th (Thanksgiving), December 25th (Christmas Day) and January 1st (New Year’s Day)

There will be food service available on the following dates from 3pm to 5pm. November 27th (Friday after Thanksgiving), December 24th (Christmas Eve) and December 28th-31st (Including New Year’s Eve)

Children need healthy meals to learn. The Office of School Food offers healthy meals every school day. The school meals application determines if your child will qualify for free or reduced-price meals and determines federal finding which is available to your child's school. Breakfast is served at no charge to all students and lunch costs $1.75 if you are not eligible for free or reduced-price lunch.

You may qualify for free meals before the start of school. We encourage you to complete a School Meals Application online over the summer so that you will not need to submit a paper form in September and do not incur any meal charges while your form is being processed.

Beginning in July, you can apply at https://www.myschoolapps.com/ which is quicker, easier, and more accurate than filling out a paper application. Online applications are submitted using your student's 9-digit ID number (sometimes referred to as an OSIS number). You will receive immediate confirmation that your application was submitted. If you provide a valid email address you will be notified in August of your child's eligibility. If you did not provide a valid email address your school will notify you of your student's eligibility status in September.

If you prefer not to complete the School Meals Application online over the summer we will send a paper application home with your child in September. It is important that when you receive the lunch application you complete it as soon as possible so that you don't incur charges for the cost of full priced lunch while your lunch application is being processed.

Your privacy is important to us. All information is kept confidential. Federal regulations do not allow the Department of Education to share your information with any other agency.
